Within Family units, therapy works with the awareness that each human being is not merely an individual but is also a part of many social groups or social systems.
All families are different! That is why as a therapist we ensure treatment remains flexible in whatever way makes sense with each individual family to solve the problem quickly and effectively.
Family therapy is an effective treatment modality because it harnesses the power of the family to heal itself.
Just like individual sessions, when there is a committment to sessions and conscious practice of integrating strategies into daily routines: goals are more likely to be met. We meet on a minimum of a monthly basis for 5 sessions for 75 minutes each time.
First session is an Intake. All members attend this appointment. Family rules for sessions are agreed on. The catalyst that brought you to us is discussed and then the goals of future sessions are identified.
Sessions 2-4 are structured to build on each other. Games, art, sandtray may all be used to integrate strategies and work towards the goals that you have identified in the Intake session.
Be prepared to work on activities together as a family in between sessions.
Session 5 - we reassess!
Appointments are booked in advance to hold your spot and ensure continuity of success. You can plan on meeting with your therapist at least 1X a month as a family unit.
Struggling with connecting with your child? Feeling frustrated and overwhelmed? Wanting to improve your communication approach and improve your relationship?
We can help!
The first step would be to book in an Intake appointment with a therapist. At this time you can share your story and develop a plan, after this 6 bi-weekly appointments are booked in.
Over the next 6 sessions, our highly skilled therapists will facilitate parent and child interactive sessions using techniques from the Theraplay and Nurturing Heart methods. The sessions are strength based and follow a child-centred PLAY approach.
